what are the BME Pain Olympics?

its a question i’ve seen around the internet. its a question that i don’t think i’ve seen as often as i’d like to, given the popularity of that awful video. it stuns me that people watch it, and don’t question the implications of a video like that being not only in existence, but being (to some degree) socially tolerable, and at some sick level, entertaining.

let me be perfectly clear: when a man castrates himself, he is at extreme risk to die. in fact, i’ve heard many times, that one man who castrated himself in that video DID in fact die, due to use of blood thinners and failure to get to a hospital in a timely fashion. i was further disturbed when the source of that (possibly false) information told me that the man did not have a heart condition, but was using blood thinners to increase the blood flow caused by the incisions.

i can understand someone enjoying their junk getting battered by a woman, a man, or even my themselves. its not exactly my cup of tea, but i can see (vaguely) where they’re coming from. its a fetish, its a dirty nasty thing, it hurts. and while you may not understand it yourself, some people get off to that. just like some people get off to shit, feet, pantyhose. just like you might get off on a big dick, or a little dick, just like guys might get off on big tits, or little tits. its all a matter of sexual preference, and as experimental and curious creatures, we sometimes explore the taboo, and sometimes, we never look back.

where do these “Pain Olympics” come from? the most obvious hint is in the initials. BME, or Body Modification Ezine is an online publication, as well as an online community for body modification enthusiasts. the magazine covers tattooing, piercing, suspension (you know, like the people hanging from meat hooks, watch ripley’s sometime), and even ritual scarification. But the pain olympics doesn’t come from that section, the pain olympics originates from a subgroup within the community, known as BME/Extreme. these members are given a separate section because they are into heavy body modifications such as implants, amputations, eunuchs, subincisions, saline inflation, among others.

lets examine these hobbies (the ones you probably haven’t heard of)

implants and amputations - these two are self explanatory. but keep in mind, they are recognized as hobbies, they are not necessarily medically called for. these people amputate and implant for fun.

eunuchs - men who voluntarily amputate their genitals, for musical, sexual, or psychological purposes. many fit into the transexual or homosexual communities (at least according to wikipedia).

subincisions - if you’ve watched the pain olympics, this is the act of cutting the penis, specifically when the urethra is split open lengthwise. it was originally a coming of age ritual in various tribes around the world, but has more recently made the transition into western culture as a form of recreation.

saline inflation - is a method most often used by surgeons to encourage the growth of more new tissue in a select spot. this is fairly common today, if you’ve ever seen a pornstar with a funny looking sausage of a penis, he may have had a saline inflation procedure done, or perhaps he’s just well endowed. i don’t know how this applies to BME, as most of the acts above have some sort of fetishism associated with them, but i’m sure theres some extreme application i can’t think of at this moment.

with the definitions out of the way, let me explain that i have explored the BME website for some time, and uncovered various tidbits of information. BME is a community for body mods of all variety. its a place for people with a common interest to interact. it serves as a massive social unit. people come here to share, meet like-minded people, and sometimes to hook up or get off. its a niche website, and as it turns out, body modification is a big fad today. the creators and moderators of BME discourage people from doing dangerous things without proper knowledge.

its at that point that i have a bit of a problem. they wipe their hands of all blame, but their website (BME/Extreme) had two very graphic pictures of some seriously mutilated penises right on the front page. i understand body modification. but you’d have to be blind if you didn’t think that hobbies never escalate, especially hobbies associated with sex. people most often work up to an extreme, and a website like this champions it and says its not only okay, its good, its sexy. i respect their freedom of body and speech, but really, i have to think that some people got roped into this BME shit with preexisting mental conditions that have gone undiagnosed because the person is perfectly content with peers and rolemodels that are doing shit way more fucked up (but not to worry, someday young troubled youth, someday, you too can cut your penis into a forked love serpent).

BME does not “put on” the olympics. nor is there a “prize” as far as i can tell. its organized by members, friends, all on the same forum. people enter voluntarily simply to share with their peers the extent of their love for body modification. its not creepy or gross to them. its daily life, its community, its belonging, its a celebration, and perhaps every so often its wanking material. but it really is nothing more. they’re doing it for fun. yes it is real. and they love it.

questions and comments encouraged. i feel a bit proud because i scourged the internet before writing this article. its the first of its kind. i did the original research! i’m being original, and man it took a lot out of me. time for a cigarette.
